Carter's Review

This attractive, 15-story, pre-war, cooperative apartment building at 340 Riverside Drive on the southeast corner at 106th Street was erected in 1926 and has 63 units.

It was designed by Sugarman & Berger.

Bottom Line

An attractive, pre-war building with handsome detailing facing Riverside Drive.

Description

The building has its small entrance on Duke Ellington Boulevard as West 106th Street is known, which is quite broad.

The brown-brick building has a half-story stone base and its first floor is rusticated masonry with a handsome limestone entrance surround with a broken pediment.

There is a broad limestone bandcourse above the first story and another abovethe12th floor.

The 13th and 14th floors have attractive two-story-high window surrounds and there is a small cornice above the top floor.

The second and third floors have very attractive vertical masonry accents.  The second floor has balconies.

It has inconsistent fenestration and some protruding air-conditioners.

Amenities

The building has a doorman, some balconies, and allows pets but no roof deck, no health club, no garage and no sidewalk landscaping.
