This attractive, 16-story apartment building at 785 West End Avenue on the northwest corner at 98th Street was erected in 1927 and designed by Lucian Pisciotta.  It is within the Riverside-West End Historic District Extension II.  It has 80 rental apartments. 

It is known as The Envoy and is also known as 300 West 98th Street. 

The building is not far from Riverside Park and cross-town bus service and the express subway station at Broadway and 96th Street.

Bottom Line

An elegant pre-war building on the Upper West Side that is missing its cornice but has a canopied entrance and quoins.

Description

The beige-brick building has a side-street, canopied entrance and permits window air-conditioners.  It has a one-story stone base and quoins that are stone on the second and third floors and masonry above. 

The entrance has Corinthian pilasters that support an entablature with foliate decorated frieze.  

The second and third floor windows are paired with terracotta surrounds. 

There is a swag decorated cornice at the third story and a terracotta sill course at the 15th floor. 

The building is missing its cornice.

The building has a doorman, a live-in superintendent, a package room and it allows pets.

Apartment 14BB is a three-bedroom unit with an entry foyer that leads to a 23-foot-long living room, a 9-foot-long dining room and an open and windowed kitchen. 

Apartment 7C is a two-bedroom unit with an entry foyer next to an enclosed and windowed, 16-foot-long kitchen and the foyer leads to a 21-foot-long living room. 

Apartment 10B is a two-bedroom unit 1,322 square feet with an entry foyer that leads to large living room that opens onto a dining room that is next to a windowed kitchen and a maid's room. 

Apartment 9 is a two-bedroom unit with an entry foyer that leads to a 16-foot-long living room and an enclosed and windowed 12-foot-long kitchen.
