Carter's Review

This 22-story, rental apartment building at 480 Riverwalk Point on Roosevelt Island was erected by the Related Companies and The Hudson Companies in 2015 and has 266 units.

It was designed by Handel Architects.

Bottom Line

A large, smoke-free, rental building with quite refined and elegant façades with some indented bricks and a slightly angled roofline not far to the north of the great Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge on Roosevelt Island.

Description

The wing with the building’s entrance is largely silver metallic with a center window pier framed in red brick whose sides are slightly indented in their center.  The same indentation motif is repeated in the other major wing, which is only red brick but has three center window piers.

The effect of the tall wings with their window piers is highly texture and the entrance is highlighted with a large metallic marquee and that wing is surmounted by an indented top floor with six thick rounded metal columns supported and a slightly angled broad roofline.

The façades’ texture is enhanced by the presence of discrete air-conditioners that are contained within the window frames.

The overall effect is understated but impressive and the building’s grounds are landscaped.

Amenities

The smoke-free building has a 24-hour concierge, a live-in superintendent, children’s playroom, a bicycle room, a gym, storage, a barbecue area and a rooftop terrace.
