Carter's Review
This extremely handsome, 7-story, red-brick building at 443 Greenwich Street between Desbrosses and Vestry streets in TriBeCa that was erected in the 1880s was converted to 53 residential condominiums in 2014.
Metro Loft Management of which Nathan Berman is a principal has previously done only rentals and is the developer and Cetra/Ruddy was the architect for the conversion.
Hank White was the landscape architect.
The building, which over the years served silver, drug, book-binding, toy and steel-wool companies, is distinguished by its large, 6-sided, 4,000-square-foot, landscaped courtyard with sassafras trees overlooked by 600 windows with shutters. The courtyard will close at 7 PM.
Bottom Line
A gorgeous 19th Century, red-brick industrial building in the north part of TriBeCa converted into residential condominiums in 2014 with a great, large, landscaped courtyard and a very impressive lobby with dark wood beams and multi-paned windows.

Occupying almost a full city block in northern TriBeCa, this very attractive former industrial building is distinguished by its arched windows on all but its top floor, elegant stringcourses, a crenellated roofline, an entrance marquee, large wooden timbers in its interiors and its large tiled and very handsome garage.
To get approval from the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission, the developer had to replace about 580 missing shutters around its large courtyard.
