Carter Horsley's Building Review Carter Horsley

72 CITYREALTY RATING

Carter's Review

This handsome, 8-story building at 52 Laight Street between Hudson and Greenwich streets in TriBeCa was completed in 2012 by Okada Denki Sangyo Co. Ltd., of which Kengo Wantanabe is a principle.

The building is known as Laight House and it has seven condominium apartments.

The site was formerly occupied by two parking garages, a one-story 1919 freight building at 50 Laight Street, and a one-story garage building from the 1940s at 52 Laight Street.

The building is in the TriBeCa North Historic District.

Suellen Defrancis is the architect.

Bottom Line

This handsome new building in TriBeCa looks “old” and is distinguished by that great New York rarity, an arched loggia with French doors.

Description

The red-brick building is very notable for its 7th floor arched loggia with many arched openings.

It is also notable for being a very convincing new “old” building that is very nicely contextual.

It also has wide limestone bandcourses between every floor.

Amenities

The building has a key-locked elevator, a virtual doorman, a wine cellar and a storage room.  It allows pets.

Apartments

There are 5 full-floor apartments with 10-foot ceilings and two duplex penthouses.

Apartments have Sub-Zero stainless-steel appliances and granite kitchen countertops.

The floor-through apartments are three-bedroom units with a 35-foot-long living/dining room adjacent to a 14-foot-long open kitchen with an island.
