Carter's Review
This red-brick 9-story building at 100 Jane Street at the northwest corner of Washington Street in the West Village was erected in 1996 by Rockrose.
It has 148 rental apartments of which 30 are “affordable.”
It was designed by Avinash K. Malhotra.
The same developer also built the far more attractive, red-brick, 99 Jane Street that was designed by Fox & Fowle with an 11-story tower flanked by six-story wings with full and French balconies setback behind a large gated and nicely landscaped park along Washington Street.
In their great book, "New York 2000, Architecture and Urbanism Between The Bicentennial And The Millennium," Robert A. M. Stern, David Fishman and Jacob Tilove observed that 100 Jane Street was “ made possible by the removal of the southernmost portion of the High Line,” but added that it “had little to recommend it,” noting that 99 Jane Street “was a far more distinguished design.”
This section of the West Village has many restaurants, numerous cobblestone streets and is convenient to the Meat-Packing District and the High Line elevated park that opened in 2009.
Bottom Line
A pleasant but boxy, red-brick building across from a very attractive park in a very desirable section of the West Village on a cobblestone street.
