Carter's Review

This very handsome, 7-story building at 68 Jane Street in the West Village between Greenwich and Washington streets was erected in 1900 and has 13 co-operative apartments.  It was converted in 1976.

The building, which is on a cobblestone street, is not far from the Hudson River, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the High Line and many restaurants.

Bottom Line

One of the most elegant and imposing structures in the West Village, this 1900 building has some very large apartments and a grandeur not besmirched by some fire escapes on one side.

Description

The building has a two-story base of white-colored bricks below a broad bandcourse topped by the tan brickwork of the upper stories that are capped by a handsome cornice and contained by strongly defined quoins.

Both the top and bottom parts of the main façade significantly punctuated by large, indented center arches.  The lower one is two stories tall and the upper one is three stories tall.

The arch motif is repeated on the top floor which has 8 small arched windows on its main façade.

The building’s entrance has a small, modern black metal marquee and no sidewalk landscaping.

Amenities

The building has a roof deck and a video intercom.  The building is pet-friendly.
