Carter's Review
The 15-story building at 446 Kent Avenue at the Schaefer Landing development in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, contains 75 units and was completed in 2006.
The project occupies the former waterfront site of the F. & M. Schaefer Brewery, which was the oldest in the city.
It was a residential development of Kent Waterfront Associates, a joint venture of BFC Partners, L&M Equity Participants and Allstate Realty Associates.
The other buildings in the complex include the 25-story tower at 440 Kent Avenue that contains 140 residential condominium apartments, and another 15-story building with 140 affordable rental units.
The tenants for the low-income "affordable" units were chosen by lottery with at least half being rented to existing residents of Williamsburg earning less than 60% of the census district's median income, which works out to about $37,000 annually for a family of four.
Gene Kaufman was the project's architect.
Bottom Line
The handsome buildings in this waterfront project have a riverfront esplanade and fine views of the Manhattan skyline. Two of the complex's three buildings are residential condominiums and the third is "affordable" rentals.
Description
The buildings have façades of blue glass and light-colored stone with no balconies.
