Carter's Review

The very handsome, 7-story condominium apartment building at 138 Broadway was erected in 1882 as the cast-iron Smith and Gray Department Store Building and was converted to condominiums by the Kay Organization of Elmont, N.Y., in 2002.

It has 41 loft apartments.

Robert Scarano was the architect for the conversion.

Bottom Line

This cast-iron building offers high ceilings and nice layouts.

Description

This building was an early conversion project in Williamsburg and it has high ceilings.

The 5th floor has arched windows and the 6th floor has inconsistent fenestration.  The building has fire escapes are one side.

Amenities

The building has a live-in superintendent, a video intercom, central heating and air-conditioning and a laundry room on each floor.

The building allows pets.

Apartments

Apartment 6B is a three-bedroom duplex unit with a small entry foyer that leads to a 22-foot-long living room with a small terrace on lower floor and three bedrooms and a 463-square-foot roof top terrace.

Apartment 5G is a three-bedroom unit with a 21-foot-long living/dining room with an open kitchen.

Apartment 6F is a three-bedroom unit with an entry foyer that leads to a living/dining room with an open kitchen.

Apartment 2B has a small entry foyer that leads to a 12-foot-long dining area next to an open 14-foot-long kitchen and a 21-foot-long living room with a 20-foot-long deck and a 19-foot-lont sleeping loft.
