Overview of 1130 Park Avenue

Built in 1927 and designed by renowned architect George Fred Pelham for the Marcus Brown Construction Co., 1130 Park Avenue is one of Carnegie Hill’s most desirable buildings. This elegant 16-story red-brick apartment building, located on the southwest corner of 91st Street,  is near some of the finest museums, charming boutiques, and excellent restaurants, making it a highly sought-after residence.

Converted to a cooperative in 1951, 1130 Park Avenue consists of 44 apartments. It boasts a variety of amenities including a 24-hour doorman, a bike room, storage facilities, a fitness room, and a live-in superintendent. Pets are welcome, a 2% flip tax applies, and 50% financing is permitted.

The building’s lower half of the first story is faced with marble, and an attractive bandcourse runs around the third story. Large marble balconies are present in the center of the façades on the 8th floor. The entrance features a canopied walkway leading into a step-up lobby. According to the Carnegie Hill Architectural Guide, the double-story entrance is adorned with a flowery carved entablature, foliate brackets, and a dentiled cornice. Above the door, a single window is framed with marble carved in a scroll pattern. Egg-and-dart string courses span the second and thirteenth stories, with more elaborate band courses, each featuring a garland frieze and dentils, traversing the third and thirteenth stories.

The neighborhood is rich with cultural and religious institutions, and it includes many fine private schools. Directly across 91st Street is the handsome Brick Presbyterian Church, designed by William Louis Ayers of York & Sawyer, and just two blocks east is the National Design Museum, formerly the Andrew Carnegie mansion. The area also features several charming restaurants and boutiques on Madison Avenue, making it an ideal location for families.

Broker & Buyer Comments

This "coveted" Park Avenue cooperative commands a "prime Carnegie Hill address" just steps from Central Park's verdant expanse. The "prestigious" location offers easy access to "elite" private schools and Madison Avenue's "sophisticated" shopping and dining scene, making it a "highly desirable" Upper East Side residence for those seeking "refined" Manhattan living.

Price/Room (Est)

Why are we displaying the estimated price per room?

For some co-ops, instead of price per square foot, we use an estimate of the number of rooms for each sold apartment to chart price changes over time. This is because many co-op listings do not include square footage information, and this makes it challenging to calculate accurate square-foot averages.

By displaying the price per estimated room count, we are able to provide a more reliable and consistent metric for comparing sales in the building. While we hope that this gives you a clearer sense of price trends in the building, all data should be independently verified. All data provided are only estimates and should not be used to make any purchase or sale decision.
