Overview of 180 East 88th Street

The 524-foot skyscraper at 180 East 88th Street, designed by DDG, ranks not only among the Upper East Side’s tallest apartment buildings, but also the most refined. Custom Kolumba brick from Denmark creates a tactile, textured façade. A recessed entrance leads through a garden to a cavern-like, vaulted lobby that echoes the building’s distinctive arched aesthetic. Undulating plaster molding by artist Jaan Hooss decorates the wall above the lobby fireplace. Vibrant murals by painter Sean Murtha animate the children’s playroom. The fitness center comes with a basketball half-court that overlooks a cozy courtyard. Full- and half-floor apartments boast 14-foot ceilings and panoramic views in all directions. The arched terrace at the penthouse duplex showcases Central Park in all its verdant glory.

Carter’s Review

"DDG, which designed and developed the very handsome, mid-rise apartment building at 41 Bond Street, is developing with Global Holdings the mid-block site at 1558 Third Avenue between 87th and 88th Streets with a 31-story condominium residence tower that will be 521 feet high.

The tower will have a stone façade and a canopied entrance on the avenue.  It is also known as 180 East 88th Street, where it has mid-block frontage."
