Carter's Review
This attractive, brown-brick apartment building was erected in 1913 and converted to a cooperative in 1958, the same year as was its nearly identical twin on the north side of the same Madison Avenue block.
The 11-story building has 56 apartments, the same number as its "twin" at 40 East 83rd Street. Because of a slight incline between 82nd and 83rd Streets along the avenue, this building's floors are slightly lower than those in its "twin."
The building has a doorman, four bandcourses, consistent fenestration and a canopied entrance but no sidewalk landscaping, no health club and no garage.
This is a pleasant block with considerable "light and air" because the building faces the playground of P. S. 6, one of the city's best public schools. There is considerable traffic on the avenue.
This is a good Upper East Side location as it is only one block from Central Park and is close to many major cultural institutions, religious institutions, and private schools. There is excellent neighborhood shopping in the vicinity and there is an express subway station and major retail stores are nearby at Lexington Avenue and 86th Street. There is cross-town bus service at 79th and 86th Streets.
