Carter's Review

This very attractive 15-story building at 225 Central Park West sits on the north corner at 82nd Street, across from the Beresford. It was erected in 1926 by prolific designer Emery Roth, whose other buildings on Central Park West include the San Remo and the Beresford.

It was developed by Bing & Bing.

The building was converted to a co-operative in 1984 and has 250 apartments.

Bottom Line

A handsome neo-renaissance building by Emery Roth with an impressive entrance marquee that is one block north of his 'cousin', the Beresford apartment building.

Description

The beige-brick building has a large and impressive entrance marquee with a three-story entrance surround.

The building has a two-story rusticated limestone base and some discrete air-conditioners.

The building has an elegant and handsome watertank enclosure.

Amenities

The building has a 24-hour doorman and a concierge, a garage that is accessible from within the building, a bicycle room, a library, a laundry, a live-in superintendent and a landscaped roof deck. It permits dogs.

Apartments

Penthouse 1701 is a three-bedroom unit with a long entry foyer that leads to a 13-foot-wide dining room next to an 8-foot-wide, enclosed kitchen and a 25-foot-wide living room/solarium and a 33-foot-wide roof terrace. There are also large terraces off the bedrooms.

Apartment 1706 is a two-bedroom unit with a small entry foyer that opens into the 18-foot-wide living room and the 16-foot-wide dining room and 11-foot-wide pass-through kitchen. There is a 60-foot-long terrace facing Central Park that wraps around to a 34-foot-long north terrace on the sidestreet that is accessed by the master-bedroom that has a large bay window.  The apartment has three skylights and a double-sided wood-burning fireplace.

Apartment 222 is a three-bedroom unit with a 41-foot-long living/dining room and an 11-foot-wide pass-through kitchen and an 11-foot-wide study.

Apartment 616 is a one-bedroom unit with an entry into the large, open kitchen that is next to the 25-foot-long living room that opens onto a 17-foot-wide, 14-sided bedroom.

Apartment 1705 is a one-bedroom duplex unit with an 8-foot-wide entry foyer on the upper floor with a 17-foot-long living room with a 40-foot-long terrace and a bedroom and the lower floor has a 20-foot-long dining room with enclosed and windowed kitchen and an 18-foot-long study.
