Carter's Review
This attractive, beige-brick, 16-story apartment building, which is known as The Brewster, was erected in 1927 and designed by Sugarman & Berger whose other Upper West Side buildings include the Broadway Fashion Building on the southwest corner at 84th Street, the White House at 262 Central Park West and the New Yorker Hotel at 34th Street.
This building was converted to 144 condominium apartments and 8,000-square feet of medical space in 2014 by Adellco, whose other Manhattan projects include the Capitol at Chelsea and the Aston.
The building was bought by Adellco in 2012 for about $98 million from Rambleside Holdings Inc.
Bottom Line
A handsome, pre-war in an excellent Upper West Side location convenient to public transportation and Central Park.
Description
The building has a broad entrance marquis and arched windows with some marble surrounds and light sconces on the first floor.
It has a scalloped stringcourse above the first floor and a scalloped bandcourse above the 4th floor and the 14th floor and a scalloped cornice. There are balconies on the sixth and 14 floors.
The first floor has arched windows.

History
In the late 1970s, the building gained some notoriety when a rehabilitation center for former mental patients known as The Bridge moved into part of the building when it was the Brewster Hotel.
