Carter's Review
There are 61 apartments in four nearly identical five-story buildings on this dead-end street overlooking the East River. The addresses are 527, 531, 535 and 541 East 72nd Street.
The black-painted brick buildings have sidewalk landscaping, fire escapes and permit. The entrances are quite cheery with bright red doors with white trim. The buildings are to the east of the small midblock park and driveway entrance to the large and stunning apartment building at One East River Place that has a large plaza at the rear of these buildings.
The buildings have red entrance doors and fire escapes and are at the opposite end of the block from Sotheby's, the auction house, on the York Avenue south comer. The area has been radically transformed since Sotheby's relocated here from Madison Avenue and 76th Street and it now has several luxury apartment towers.
There is good cross-town bus service at York Avenue, but subways are far away. This area is close to several hospitals along York Avenue to the south.
A famous author and publisher lives in the building by the river, 541.
