Carter's Review

Hawthorn Park is a 54-story rental apartment building at 160 West 62nd Street on the Fordham University campus at the southwest corner of the Lincoln Center For the Performing Arts and west of the stunning, curved, 22-story Fordham University Law School and Dormitory Building designed by Pei Cobb Freed.

It was developed by Glenwood Management and designed by the Stephen B. Jacobs Group that has also designed similar tower for Glenwood planned for 175 West 60th Street.

 

It was completed in 2014 and has 339 apartments, 20 percent of which are “affordable.”

Bottom Line

Although some of its views south and east may be obstructed, this tower has spectacular views over the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and has the usual splendid Glenwood package of amenities.

Description

The beige-brick tower is setback a bit on a two-story base and has some setbacks only its top.

The tower has many corner windows.

Amenities

The building has a doorman and a concierge, a garage, a bicycle room, a roof deck, a children’s playroom a fitness center and swimming pool, a business meeting room, and a garden.

Apartments

A three-bedroom unit has a long entry foyer that leads to an 18-foot-long living room that opens onto a 13-foot-long dining room with an open kitchen.

A two-bedroom unit has a large, L-shaped entry foyer that leads to a 20-foot-long living room that opens onto a 12-footwide dining room with corner windows and a pass-through kitchen.

Another two-bedroom unit has an entry foyer that leads to a pass-through kitchen next to a 20-foot-long living room.

There is also a two-bedroom unit that has an entry foyer that leads to a 16-foot-long living room with corner windows and a pass-through kitchen.

A one-bedroom unit has a long foyer that leads to a 21-foot-long living room with corner windows and an open kitchen with a counter.

Another one-bedroom unit has a foyer that passes a pass-through kitchen to a 12-foot-long dining room that opens onto a 14-foot-long living room with corner windows.

There is also a one-bedroom unit with a foyer that leads to a 16-foot-long living room with corner windows and a pass-through kitchen.

A studio unit has a foyer next to a pass-through kitchen that opens onto a 22-foot-wide studio.

History

A 57-story tower was originally planned for the site by Douglaston Development but it had financing problems and Glenwood bought the site from Fordham University in 2010 for $100 million. 

A second apartment tower is planned south of this one and the Alfred apartment tower.

Fordham is planning to add two buildings on the eastern side of its site.
