Front & York roof terrace (Williams New York) Front & York roof terrace (Williams New York)
The Manhattan skyline is one of the most iconic in the world, and the best place to see it is from across the river in Brooklyn. The odd Downtown Brooklyn supertall notwithstanding, these neighborhoods aren’t reaching such stratospheric heights that skyline views are getting blocked out. If anything, some neighborhoods’ zoning requirements and/or locations in historic districts dictate what types of buildings can and cannot be built, thus further protecting the views.
While unobstructed skyline views are one reason developers of new Brooklyn buildings have incorporated roof decks into their amenity packages, it is by no means the only one. With the majority of luxury buildings closing their indoor amenities at the height of the pandemic as part of the effort to slow the spread, outdoor amenities experienced a whole new appreciation among residents. As such, developers and designers have made a point of including them in their new buildings.

Lounge, grilling, and dining areas on the roof have become de rigueur, but some buildings are taking it several steps further with outdoor workout areas, children’s playgrounds, cinemas, or especially creative landscaping. We take a look at Brooklyn buildings with the most well-thought amenities and the best city views as backdrops.
