A significant decrease from the prior week's 37 luxury contract signings, last week saw just 25 signed at $4 million and above, according to Olshan's weekly market report.
The top signing was Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll’s 85th-floor condominium at Extell's One57. The pricy pad, which spans over 6,000 square feet with three beds and four-and-a-half baths, went into contract for $59 million, down from the $70 million it was asking when it was first listed in October. Stroll, known for his role in Michael Kors' successful IPO in 2011, purchased the unit in December 2014 for $55.6 million. As of 2018, Stroll's net worth is an estimated $2.7 billion, putting him at #887 on Forbes' World's Billionaires list.
And while the $59 million contract is certainly uber pricy, it won't go on to break any sales records in the neighborhood nor the building, where Michael Dell bought a $100.5 million penthouse in 2014 (the most expensive home sold in NYC). However, $59 million does go a long way downtown, where a unit in The Getty was reportedly just sold for that amount, smashing the record for the priciest home sold in the area. The record was previously held by a $51 million penthouse in Walker Tower.
