From May 8-14, 2024, approximately 350 condos, co-ops, condops, and townhouses throughout New York City experienced price reductions. Among them was 120 East 19th Street, a Gramercy townhouse dating back to the 1850s, when Pacific Insurance Company president and Pacific Bank director Amos F. Hatfield moved in with his family and filled it with high-quality items. Decades later, it was converted to a high-end rooming house that counted author/activist Ida Tarbell among the residents. Over the years that she lived there, she served on President Wilson's Committee on the Council of National Defense during World War I, was appointed to President Harding's Unemployment Conference, and became part owner of The American Magazine (h/t Daytonian in Manhattan).

Decades later, the house underwent a renovation. It is currently configured as a multi-family building with an owner's duplex and six upper-level units, but could easily become a single-family mansion one block from New York's only private park. It was listed for $11.45 million in November 2023, but the most recent price reduction brings it down to $9,450,000.

Also last week, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani's Upper East Side co-op experienced another price reduction. Mr. Giuliani listed it for $6.5 million in summer 2023 amidst mounting legal woes, but cut the price in October 2023. Since then, he has filed for bankruptcy, had his radio show canceled, and relisted his apartment with a lower price of $5,700,000.
These homes and other notable listings, along with a full chart of last week's price cuts, may be seen below. Please be advised that all quoted figures reflect cumulative price cuts as opposed to the most recent reductions.
