The once-abandoned Hunters Point is on a rapid upswing. The latest proof of that came at a ribbon-cutting ceremony to the opening of Phase II of Hunters Point South Park, a green landscape with gorgeous Manhattan skyline views and resilient design features. The first phase opened in 2013, and the park already seems like it's been open forever: Children’s programming, environmental events, stargazing, fitness classes, and a beer festival celebrating Queens breweries are on the docket for what promises to be a busy summer.

The Hunters Point community is in for more than a new park: Hunters Point South Park is part of a plan to develop the waterfront with 5,000 housing units (60 percent of which will be affordable) on a project that will span 30 acres upon completion.
In the short term, as native New Yorkers and tourists alike crowd their way into rooftop restaurants or cook themselves in the sun to stake out prime spots, Hunters Point residents are in for a much easier and happier Fourth of July with their ability to watch the fireworks from their own homes. Take a look at listings with the best waterfront views.
