Celebrities whose NYC homes saw action in November Celebrities whose NYC homes saw action in November
Less than a week after the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, another iconic, star-studded event is taking place in New York: The Rockefeller Center tree lighting will take place at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4. EGOT-winning actress/singer Jennifer Hudson, Death Becomes Her star Megan Hilty, Grammy-nominated singer Coco Jones, and Grammy-winning band Dan + Shay are set to do double duty at both events, and will be joined by Kelly Clarkson, Backstreet Boys, Thalia, RAYE, Little Big Town, and the Radio City Rockettes at the tree lighting.

This year's tree is a 74-foot-tall Norway Spruce from Massachusetts (h/t 6sqft), and it will be adorned with over 50,000 LED lights and a Swarovski-designed star. Several streets surrounding Rockefeller Center will be closed to accommodate crowds, but the tree lighting will be broadcast on NBC and streamed on Peacock for those who'd rather watch from the comfort of their homes.

At the end of the ceremony, some of the event's performers will retire to hotel rooms. But on any given night, many of New York's brightest luminaries in business, the arts, and entertainment are able to return to their own beds. We look at the purchases, listings, and other transactions by celebrities in November 2024.

Shortly before designer Jeremiah Brent’s first season on Queer Eye is set to air on Netflix, he and his husband, fellow design/HGTV star Nate Berkus, offloaded their triplex penthouse in Greenwich Village. It is reasonable to ask if they’re sure about selling this time – they sold the penthouse, which was then a duplex, in 2016, only to buy it back in 2021 and embark on an expansion and renovation.

22 Bank Street, #TH (Corcoran Group)
About a year and a half after listing it for $26 million, the West Village townhouse of EGOT-winning but controversial film and theater producer Scott Rudin, who bought it from former Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter, has found a buyer. It was listed with the neighboring 20 Bank Street as a chance to combine the two into one mega-mansion, but that house remains on the market for $10 million.

From the Listing: On Bank Street which is a quintessential Greenwich Village Street named for the Bank of New York, founded by Alexander Hamilton sits this charming townhouse has just undergone a triple-mint renovation by the architect G.P. Schafer. On entering the Parlor level from the original stoop you are greeted by great room of impressive scale, spanning 38' with 11' ceilings. This room features two fireplaces and beautiful built-in bookcases. The original window shutters have been restored and open to allow sunlight to flood in. At the far end of the great room is a library with over-sized windows and a Juliet balcony overlooking the garden below. See floor plan and full details here.

About five months after listing it in June 2024, Peter Barbey, publishing executive and former owner of the Village Voice, sold his penthouse in The Greenwich Lane - while $4 million below ask, he nevertheless makes a profit, having bought it for just over $26 million at the end of 2015. He and his wife, Tony Award voter Pamela Barbey, reportedly moved elsewhere in the city to be closer to family, but their next move is not known.

4 East 80th Street, #TH (Modlin Group LLC)
In 1915, acclaimed architect Charles P.H. Gilbert built the French Gothic mansion at 4 East 80th Street for Frank Woolworth. Eighty years later, more business moguls moved in: Lucille Roberts gym founders Bob Roberts and his wife Lucille, who bought it for $6 million in 1995 (h/t Crain's New York Business). Since then, the house has been extensively renovated to its former glory while adding such bells and whistles as a full-floor primary suite, a rooftop lounge, a lower-level work-from-home space with garden access, and (appropriately enough) a home gym and sauna.

From the Listing: 4 East 80th Street is a rare opportunity to enjoy a piece of New York City’s architectural legacy. Painstakingly restored to its original grandeur, but featuring modern amenities, this French Gothic masterpiece is 35’ wide, boasts an astounding approximately 20,000 square feet and 9 bedrooms, 11.5 bathrooms and 3 kitchens. The classic limestone facade rises 7 stories with understated embellishments and two monumental dormers rising from the fifth floor balcony. See floor plan and full details here.
