The weekend of August 3-4, 2024 was an exciting one for Americans at the Summer Olympics: The women’s gymnastics team put on another spectacular show; Noah Lyles won the men’s 100-meter finals in one of the closest finishes ever; and Scottie Scheffler came from behind to win the gold medal in golf and set an Olympic record in the process. Mr. Scheffler has two Masters titles to his name, but calls his Olympics experience one “I’ll remember for a long time.”
The Olympic event took place at Golf National, one of Europe’s most prestigious courses. Across the ocean, there is a surprising number of golf resources in New York's five boroughs. There are several public golf courses in the Bronx, and Chelsea Piers offers a driving range as well as a teaching academy. For those who don’t take golf nearly so seriously, Pier 25 in Tribeca and Swingers Crazy Golf in NoMad offer miniature golf courses.

New York is also home to a large number of golf simulators that allow golfers to practice at all times of year and in all types of weather. These collect data on everything from stance to swing to ball flight, showing golfers where they need to improve. Some clubs even seek to elevate golf practice into a social event – Five Iron Golf offers a sports bar in addition to simulators and lessons from an in-house pro. In one of the newer additions, Tiger Woods and Justin Timberlake teamed up on T-Squared Social Club, a sports bar that offers four golf simulators, bowling lanes, a full food and cocktail menu, and what Golf Week describes as “the largest indoor TV screen in the city” in addition to over 35 TVs.
Finally, some golfers don’t even have to go outside to hone their sport, as a large number of residential buildings have incorporated golf simulators into their amenity packages. The most recent case in point is The Bold and The Italic, a new, twin-towered rental development in Long Island City. Work is still winding down on The Italic, which topped out construction late last year, but The Bold has just launched leasing. The center of their amenity package is a premium golf simulator; additional offerings include a fitness center, a lounge and accompanying coworking space, and tech-enabled storage space.
In addition to the amenities, residents of The Bold will benefit from homes with oversized windows, sweeping views, hand-picked finishes, and spacious floor plans. Its address between the Queens Plaza and Court Square subway stops makes for an easy commute anywhere in New York; however, there is plenty to offer closer to home given its proximity to popular restaurants, MoMA PS1, SculptureCenter, and Book Culture. The first availabilities start at $3,730/month for studios, $4,695/month for one-bedrooms, $6,000/month for two-bedrooms, and $9,588/month for three-bedrooms. The building is offering two months free rent.
Move-ins at The Bold are expected to begin in October 2024, but several residential buildings with golf simulators among the amenities are open for immediate availability. Some stick to golf, offering the experience of playing some of the world’s most famous courses, and others have expanded their offerings to include every sport one can imagine – soccer, hockey, football, baseball – and some we never even thought of (zombie dodgeball, anyone?)
Some buildings tout their golf simulators as athletic amenities, while others treat them as social offerings positioned near lounges, party rooms, and terraces to keep the party going. We look at condos and rentals alike that count golf simulators among their amenities.
