As July 2021 draws to a close, CityRealty listings show 8,271 publicly listed units for rent in core areas of New York City. This shows a 13 percent drop from the beginning of the month, and the median Manhattan rent has climbed to $3,647/month in the same time period. This time last year saw an abundance of listings with surprisingly low rents and an array of concessions, but that appears to be left in the past.
A full, sortable chart listing the past week's discounted New York City rentals may be found below, along with some of the most appealing new rental listings. Among them was a full-floor residence at 3 Pierrepont Place, which the American Institute of Architects once called "the most beautiful brownstone in New York City." The townhouse was built in 1857 and known as the Low Mansion in honor of its owner, businessman A.A. Low; his son, Seth Low, would become mayor of Brooklyn in 1881, president of Columbia University in 1890, and mayor of New York City in 1902. More than 100 years later, Matt Damon and his family toured the property before ultimately purchasing elsewhere in Brooklyn Heights.
Mr. Damon toured the property when it was listed for sale for $40 million with the possibility of being converted to a single-family home; it is currently divided into eight rental units. This apartment boasts two private terraces, impressive proportions, four decorative fireplaces, a sunken dining room, and three bedrooms with en suite baths. The building offers storage space and the use of a portion of the roof deck, and Brooklyn Heights Promenade and Brooklyn Bridge Park are a short walk away.
