As a rule, CityRealty typically runs celebrity real estate articles as a feature at the beginning of every month. However, the former homes of several public figures were among Manhattan's top sales for the week ending May 24, 2024.
Actor/producer Mike Myers is well known for his Canadian heritage, but has accumulated a respectable New York real estate portfolio. He was an early buyer in celebrity favorite 443 Greenwich Street, buying a four-bedroom home for just under $15 million in 2016, but relisted it only one week later. He got $14 million for it; more recently, The Real Deal announced that it had changed hands again in an off-market deal. The closing price of $20,700,000 was the highest of the week.

P.S. Mr. Myers' portfolio includes a penthouse overlooking the High Line on the market. He listed it for $20 million in May 2023, and it has since been relisted at a lower price of $17,500,000. However, if it sells for this asking price, it will likely rank among Manhattan's top sales as well.
Documentary photographer Elliott Erwitt Elliott Erwitt at The Brentmore (Douglas Elliman)
The week's top co-op sale and second-highest overall took place in another building popular among celebrities. Central Park West cooperative The Brentmore has been home to actresses Celeste Holm and Joan Copeland, musician Paul Simon, celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz, and documentary photographer Elliott Erwitt. Mr. Erwitt and his family lived in the building for more than 50 years, and his survivors listed the apartment following his death in November 2023. It entered contract with an asking price of $11,500,000 a short time later, and most recently closed for $13,315,000.

Public records show that the seller also purchased another two-bedroom unit the family owned in the building for $2,300,000. Aa a photo included with the listing shows, Mr. Erwitt appeared to use it as a studio and/or office.
925 Park Avenue and The Park Millennium, home of the third-highest sales of the week
Additionally, two units tied for the week's third-highest closing price of $13,000,000. One was a four-bedroom duplex at 925 Park Avenue that was previously owned by Blackstone executive Jonathan Gray and his wife, philanthropist Mindy Gray. Crain's New York Business announced the sale, noting that it includes two storage areas and that the Grays bought it for about $8 million in 2005. Buyer Margaret Boyden will enjoy interiors by Peter Pennoyer, Park Avenue vistas, three wood-burning fireplaces, and a graceful staircase to connect both levels.

But while one of the week's third-highest sales was a high-profile transaction in a prewar Upper East Side cooperative, the other was decidedly more subdued: The buyers and sellers of Residence #35DEF at Upper West Side condominium The Park Millennium conducted the transaction using LLCs. This was not Liam Neeson's apartment -- his is several stories down -- and Crain's New York Business notes that this home has been on and off the market since 2019, when it was initially listed for $25 million. The closing price reflects a deep discount, but nevertheless sets a new price record for the building.
