In September 2024 — twenty-one years, multiple purchases, and one massive combination and renovation later — Bravo host and producer Andy Cohen listed his massive assemblage at West Village cooperative 2 Horatio Street for $14,000,000. His is not the only famous name associated with the listing: The building was helmed by Bing & Bing, one of the most prolific and well-known developers of the early 20th century.
Born in the mid-1870s, New York City-born brothers Leo and Alexander Bing both earned law degrees. They pivoted to real estate with their eponymous development firm, though Museum of the City of New York curator Donald Albrecht suggests that their legal background helped them assemble parcels of land and build relationships with investors (h/t Brick Underground).
The Bing brothers also built relationships with the most prominent architects of their time, most famously Emery Roth. Whoever they worked with, their buildings quickly became famous for their intricate details and Art Deco design touches. Interiors consistently featured thoughtful floor plans with careful separations of public and private space.
