In New York, apartments experience price cuts for all kinds of reasons. Sometimes they were listed optimistically high to begin with and must be adjusted to align with market realities. Other times, a glut of similar units means brokers and sellers must take action for their listing to stand out. And still other times, a less than savory history can taint an otherwise gorgeous listing.

A possible combination of all of the above would appear to have struck #64A in the Park Imperial, and it doesn't help that new supertalls like 220 Central Park South and Central Park Tower have encroached upon once-uninterrupted views. The apartment, most recently owned by former Comverse Technology founder Jacob "Kobi" Alexander, has been reduced by $16 million since it was first listed. But if that is still too far out of your price range, we pulled a selection of apartments in prime New York neighborhoods that have been reduced to under $1.5 million.

Between the silk-, leather-, and wood-paneled walls, the hand-hewn plank floors, the maple-paneled ceilings, and the hand-chiseled stone slabs, the finest materials went into this full-floor unit on the 64th story of a Midtown skyscraper condominium. The same attention to detail went into the chef's dream kitchen, which is outfitted with Sub-Zero appliances and incredible storage space. The enormous master suite features his-and-hers dressing rooms and spa-like bath with oversized sauna, warmed floors, all-glass shower, and relaxing whirlpool tub.

According to a 2015 story from Curbed, the home belonged to former Comverse Technology founder and CEO Jacob "Kobi" Alexander who fled the country to Namibia in 2006 when he was found to have committed various types of fraud. The home was initially purchased for $8,561,378 in 2001 and while it has been up for rent, has never been resold. It was last listed for $29 million in 2017 which was reduced from $39 million in June 2015. The newly-encumbered views of Central Park caused by Central Park Tower and 220 CPS is a likely cause for the dramatic reductions.See floor plan and full details here.
