The top sale recorded in Manhattan was for 40 West 74th Street, which sold for $16,500,000. The buyer conducted the transaction through a trust, and public records identify the seller as Taconic Partners co-founder and co-CEO Charles Bendit.
When The Real Deal announced the sale, it pointed out that the 11,000-square-foot, six-story property was listed as a two-family home but was recorded in Acris as three separate condos; and that it appears to have been in the Bendit family since the 1980s. Mr. Bendit paid $1.5 million for the property in 2003 and is apparently downsizing; the sale comes over a year after his purchase at an Emery Roth-designed cooperative up the street (h/t The Real Deal).
