Carter's Review
This 35-story unit condominium tower known as the Cosmopolitan at 145 East 48th Street is the most attractive apartment tower close to Grand Central Terminal.
In an area surrounded by older hotel buildings and offices, this mid-block tower is a stunner and its vigorous and interesting design would lead one to think it was designed for a more exposed site on an avenue. It opened in 1986.
Although there is no major innovation here, the design by Gruzen Samton Steinglass for developers William Zeckendorf Jr. and Harshad Shah works very well and elegantly.
It has 207 apartments.
Bottom Line
This is a full-service and very attractive, mid-block apartment tower with many small apartments that is close to Grand Central Terminal.
Description
Its major façade facing south is superb with two extremely handsome columns of bay windows composed of five tall panes for the lower two-thirds of the building and a more complex treatment at the top of indented and cutout balconies.
Many of the apartments boast corner windows.
Amenities
The building has a health club, a pool, a sundeck, an entertainment room, a concierge, room service and a garage.
