Carter’s Review

"This pleasant, 14-story, white-brick apartment building at 211 East 53rd Street is known as the Hawthorne.

It was erected in 1957 just to the east of the elliptically planned deep red, telescoping office tower known as “the Lipstick Building” that was designed by Philip Johnson.  It is a condop and has 145 apartments."

Broker & Buyer Comments

This "fastidiously maintained" 1959 condop offers "generous" apartments in a "prime Midtown East location" with "everything at your doorstep." The "intimate lobby" and "tastefully renovated" hallways of this Boak and Raad-designed building lead to units ranging from studios to three-bedrooms, some boasting "substantial terraces." While the "friendly doormen" earn praise, building maintenance can be "hit-or-miss." Perks include a "roof deck" and "pin-drop quiet" north-facing views of the Lipstick Building courtyard, plus "incredible" access to "culinary delights" and transit options.
