Carter Horsley's Building Review Carter Horsley
May 29, 2013

Carter's Review

The 9-story, red-brick building on the northwest corner of West Broadway at 1 North Moore Street is a very handsome mid-rise addition to TriBeCa that is notable for its corner windows and very attractive masonry details.

It was built in 2011 by the Vella Group, which is headed by Zachary Vella and Justin Ehrlich, and designed by FLAnk Architects. The Vella Group acquired the site in 2010 from Peter Moore for “a reported $9 million,” according to an article by Carl Glassman in the August 30, 2010 edition of the TriBeCa Trib.

The building, which is also known as 240 West Broadway, has a triplex townhouse with four bedrooms and a garage on the west side of the building and five apartments and a triplex penthouse with its own rooftop pool on the east side.

Bottom Line

A very elegant, mid-rise building in the center of TriBeCa with few apartments and an attended lobby.

Description

The angled building is setback above the sixth floor and has a glass shed marquee on North Moore Street and multi-paned windows.

It also has a thin green cornice that is both above the sixth floor and atop the penthouse.

Amenities

The building has an attended lobby, a remote electric shade system, private storage and direct, key-locked elevator access.

Apartments

Apartments have 6-inch wide plank white oak flooring with a deep chestnut stain.

Kitchens have Shaker-style cabinetry in distressed white finish, Calacatta marble countertops and backsplashes and Liebherr refrigerators.

Baths have double sinks and Kohler Tea-for-Two soaking tubs.

Many of the apartments have an angled corner “great” room adjacent to an enclosed kitchen with an island, a library and three bedrooms.
