Between no televised Golden Globe ceremony, the SAG, Critics Choice, and Grammy Awards being postponed due to the pandemic, and the changes to the Academy Awards show, there's no denying that this year's "awards season" was more than a little unusual. One thing that has not changed, though, is that entertainment luminaries have been drawn to New York as a home base. Interestingly enough, a number of Oscar, Grammy, Emmy, and Tony Award nominees and winners were among the bold-faced names listing, selling, and buying in New York over the past month.

23-East-22nd-Street-01 Rupert Murdoch (Wiki Commons); One Madison (Corcoran)
When media tycoon Rupert Murdoch bought his massive spread at the Cetra Ruddy-designed One Madison in 2014, he lived in the smaller unit on the 57th floor while the white-box triplex penthouse on floors 58-60 was constructed and renovated to his exact specifications. Since then, the 57th-floor unit has been used for staff and guests; however, when the condos hit the market, listing broker Deborah Grubman of Corcoran told The Wall Street Journal that the two units could be combined into one massive home with the building’s approval.

From the Listing:
Crowning One Madison from the 58th to the 60th floors, the Triplex Penthouse boasts nearly 7,000 square feet of open interior space with dramatic full-height windows that offer breathtaking 360-degree skyline and river views. This residential masterpiece was designed with the utmost sophistication and aesthetic integrity. The double-height Great Room with over 20-foot ceilings and a 586 square-foot wraparound terrace is the centerpiece of the residence. Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin — Listed for $19,999,500

243-East-17th-Street-01 Catherine Martin (Flickr - Eva Rinaldi); Baz Lurhmann (Wiki Commons); 243 East 17th Street (Corcoran)
Director Baz Luhrmann is known for the lavish look of his “Red Curtain Trilogy” (Strictly Ballroom, William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet, and Moulin Rouge!); his wife, Catherine Martin, is the most awarded Australian in Oscar history for her beautiful costumes and production design. The power couple brought the same aesthetics to their Gramercy Park townhouse; in addition to renovating it for modern living, they redid the formerly drab interiors with more colorful wallpapers, accents, and furnishings. They initially planned to live in the house, but the pandemic kept them stranded in Australia for years; during that time, their children reached college age. Ms. Martin told The Wall Street Journal that she and Mr. Luhrmann planned to look for another New York property, preferably one more geared towards empty nesters than the townhouse.

From the Listing:
Beckoning the bygone era of the Gilded Age in New York, this exceptional 28-foot-wide, elevator townhome sits perfectly positioned with a centerline view over Stuyvesant Square Park. Beautifully renovated in 2019, this stately home with gracious proportions features a three-bay facade, round-arched doors and windows, a lovely foliate patterned cast-iron balcony that runs the width of the edifice, and a paneled cornice. Totaling nearly 8,500 square feet with additional FAR, the five-story was originally built in the 1850s and currently has 6 bedrooms and 5 baths, and 2 powder rooms. This elegant townhouse has been featured in numerous design publications including Elle Decor and was one of Elle Decor’s top "liked" Instagram posts of 2021.

However, the New York Post revealed that now that Mr. Perlman’s children are grown, the 8,000-square-foot house is too big for him and his wife Toby - they have just listed it.

From the Listing:
