Flashlight Safari & Museum Sleepovers Are Still a Thrill for Kids

APRIL 17, 2009

City museums give kids a chance to explore after dark and wake up with wildlife.

At the American Museum of Natural History, the popular Night at the Museum Sleepover program for families and 8-12 year olds will undoubtedly bring back memories of after-hours science museum fun. Young visitors get a chance to experience the Age of Dinosaurs exhibit, see an IMAX film, check out the live animal exhibition in the museum's after-dark secret world. The museum also features sleepovers for groups of more than 21 participants and families. You'll find a sample activity schedule here.
Current season dates: April 24-June 26 (see site for exact dates)
Time: 5:45pm-9am
Price: $129 per person (includes an evening snack and light breakfast as well as activities.)
Check the Sleepover site for more information or call 212-769-5200

The Bronx Zoo refuses to be outdone, offering a Family Overnight Safari, where young visitors (5yrs and up) can watch the animals being put to bed and go on a flashlight safari. The program sells out fast, but there's a waitlist for each date.
