New Developments in the News

AUGUST 31, 2009

A new building is in the works on the Upper East Side, and bigger plans unfold for the MTA rail yards

Plans have been filed for the construction of a new 15-story apartment building at 861 Lexington Avenue on the southeast corner at 65th Street. The planned 65,000-square-foot building will be home to 25 condominium residences as well as ground floor retail space.

In September the City Planning Commission will be hearing plans by Related Companies to develop the MTA rail yards on Manhattan's West Side. The hearing will be the first chance for Anna Levin, the newly appointed head of the Hudson Yards Community Advisory Committee, to show her knowledge and experience in city planning in a new role. Ms. Levin has gained significant respect in her previous years as a community board member in the city. The current plan, pending approval by the city's land use review process, calls for 12 million square feet of residential and commercial development on 11th Avenue between 30th and 33rd Streets.
