New Developments in the News

A West Village rezoning may address community concerns.
The City Planning Commission may rezone a six-block area of the West Village in order to remedy what has been referred to as “outdated,” and “anomalous” zoning in the area between Washington and Greenwich Streets and 10th to 12th Streets.
The rezoning would impose height limits on new development, eliminate bonuses for commercial and community developments and mandate approval by the Landmarks Preservation Commission for all new development designs. The rezoning was requested in reaction to a pair of projects—including a hotel at 145 Perry Street—that the Commission may have considered out of sync with the neighborhood’s character, and has been supported by several local elected officials including City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer.
