Vantage settles in tenant harassment suit; Griffin Court nearly ready for buyers.

New York State Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo has announced a settlement agreement with Vantage Properties over his intent to sue the company. The agreement stipulated that Vantage–which spent more than $2 billion at the height of the market in 2006 and 2007 on over 9,500 apartments in Queens, Washington Heights and Harlem–stop harassing tenants to get them to vacate so that the properties could be rented as market-rate units. The agreement also requires that the company pay a $1 million fine, three-quarters of which will be earmarked for residents, with the remainder going to non-profit tenant aid groups. Mr. Cuomo was quoted as saying that, “Landlords who illegally harass tenants to boost their bottom line do great harm to the fabric of the city,” adding that “Their underhanded tactics displace longtime residents from their homes and exacerbate the acute affordable-housing shortage.”

Sales will begin next month for the twin residences at Griffin Court at 800 Tenth Avenue between 53rd and 54th Streets. The new condominium is home to an 8,000 square foot landscaped, bi-level center courtyard, a fitness center, storage space, 24/7 concierge service and video intercom system. Interiors feature Poggenpohl cabinetry, Kitchenaid refrigerators, Viking ranges and Bosch dishwashers.
