No Barking on the Dancefloor: A New Club Goes to the Dogs

MAY 14, 2010

A new Financial District dog park and social club promises the latest in pampered pet perks.

Disco parties for babies and their owners have been a big hit, so it comes as no surprise that parents of four-legged charges would want to join the party. When it bounds into 85 South Street in lower Manhattan’s Financial District in June, Fetch Club will be “New York City’s largest canine clubhouse,” a 13,000 square foot doggie disco promising the latest in perks for pampered pets.

A menu of home-cooked canine cuisine, mud baths, manicures and a tiny treadmill will help keep Fifi fit and fashionable. A selection of films will entertain (or completely fail to impress) the culture-hungry hound. For more down-to-earth dogs there will be 3,000 feet of dog run goodness. Finally, for human companions, a specialty boutique and a wired lounge will serve as check-in-and-chill-out spots. The residential building’s vast ground-floor space doesn’t have a permit for overnight guests of the furry variety, but after-dark barking hasn’t been ruled out yet. Dance parties and pet-friendly events—you can find out more on the Fetch Club Facebook page—have already been planned to get the (doggie) disco ball spinning.
