Bob Vila’s Flatiron penthouse for sale, Alexis Stewarts’s Tribeca penthouse sold, Mets pitcher rents and a hall-of-famer’s Dakota classic hits the market.
DIY-TV star Bob Vila is selling his 2,500 square foot Flatiron penthouse—purchased for $6 million in 2009—for $5.7 million. The top-floor condo at 15 Madison Square North has a private roof deck, panoramic views of the city and a flexible floor plan. No construction was required–the building’s top floors had just been made into shiny-new condos when the renovation guru moved in (CurbedNY).
Martha Stewart’s daughter Alexis has washed her hands of her Tribeca Ice House condo. The younger Stewart’s pad, the 3,884 square foot aerie that is penthouse E at 27 North Moore Street, has been on the market since 2009. Martha herself bought the condo—which just sold for $8.6 million to a hedge funder and his wife—for $2.9 million in 1999 (CurbedNY).
The Upper East Side townhouse formerly owned by Cornelius Vanderbilt’s widow changed hands recently for the high-end-of-the-market-is-indeed-thriving price of $47 million after being on the market for three years; The five-story townhouse on East 69th Street was sold by author/heiress Sloan Lindemann Barnett and her internet entrepreneur (Beauty.com) husband Roger Barnett. The neo-Georgian home was built in the late 1800s and was later home to Alice Gwynne Vanderbilt, wife of New York Central Railroad magnate Cornelius Vanderbilt II (WSJ.com).
Former NFL coach and sportscaster John Madden is selling his apartment in The Dakota at 72nd Street and Central Park West for $4.9 million. The 2,000 square foot maisonette features a private entrance off the building’s interior courtyard and two fireplaces. The retired hall-of-famer, who has been spending more time on the west coast, bought the apartment from comedienne Gilda Radner in 1985. The late SNL star had allegedly paid $150k for the apartment in one of the city’s most iconic buildings during the legendary economic slump in 1979 (via WSJ.com).
