Notable NYC Neighbors

NOVEMBER 21, 2012

Big deals and notable neighbors are still the rule on Central Park West.

Word-slinging modern artist Barbara Kruger just signed on the dotted line for a $2.25 million one-bedroom co-op in the Majestic at 115 Central Park West with park and Fifth Avenue views, museum-quality lighting and motorized shades. The apartment also features artful interiors designed by architects Tod Williams and Billie Tsien. Susan Weber Soros, ex-wife of billionaire philanthropist George Soros, is trying to sell a 6,000-square-foot, five-bedroom unit in the same building for $50 million (NYPost).

After waiting out the seemingly endless renovations to her new Upper East Side townhouse, Madonna has finally put her Harperley Hall co-op duplex at 41 Central Park West on the market. Since the apartment–a combination of two units plus original design–was basically created for the Material One, this is its first time on the market. The Central Park-fronting duplex with tons of closet space and five wood-burning fireplaces is asking $23.5 million (CurbedNY).

An apartment in the Brentmore at 88 Central Park West belonging to late actress Celeste Holm has recently been listed for $13.95 million–1,394 times the price that Holm, who died four months ago at the age of 95, paid for the apartment in 1958. Whoever buys the three-bedroom duplex will have Robert DeNiro, who lives on the building’s fifth floor, for a neighbor (CurbedNY).

Even Meryl Streep isn’t immune to the ravages of hurricane Sandy. The Oscar-winner, who has a penthouse in the River Lofts at 92 Laight Street in TriBeCa, is being barred from the building while hurricane damage to the apartment and the building itself is being addressed (NYDN).
