An heiress, a hairdresser and a model are this week’s boldfaced players on the NYC real estate scene; a new condo conversion sets a downtown sales record.
The downtown apartment belonging to model Elyse Taylor is on the market for $950k. The 740-square-foot, one-bedroom pre-war condo at 175 East Second Street is an iconic East Village hideaway with exposed beams and brick and a decorative fireplace, with the addition of a renovated chef’s kitchen. Un-typical: The building features a glass elevator overlooking an atrium. The Australian mannequin and her fiance also recently sold their West Village pad at 130 Barrow Street; they’re expecting a baby, so perhaps their next move will be to a more family-sized spread (NYPost).
Stylist-to-the-stars and hair care product honcho Frederic Fekkai recently sold his three-bedroom duplex co-op at 829 Park Avenue for just below the apartment’s $3.2 million ask. The limestone residence just blocks from Central Park offers southern, northern and eastern exposures and a maid’s room (NYO).
Goodyear heiress Dorothy Seiberling Steinberg just sold her co-op in the iconic Beresford at 211 Central Park West (pictured) for slightly less than its $4 million ask. The Beresford has been home to a long list of celebrities, including Diana Ross, John McEnroe and Jerry Seinfeld to name just a few. Steinberg’s two-bedroom apartment in the triple-towered building that rises impressively above Central Park is one of the building’s more modest units; there are currently two units for sale in the building, priced at a loftier $22 and $21 million (NYO).
Big Tickets
One of two trophy penthouses at the popular new Chelsea condo conversion Walker Tower at 212 West 18th Street has reportedly entered contract for more than $50 million, breaking the record for downtown condo sales. The 6,000-square-foot 5-bedroom, full-floor unit hit the market at $55 million in September. The current record-holder is a $42 million penthouse at 18 Gramercy Park South (where an apartment just topped weekly sales records at $16 million). Penthouse One, as the Walker Tower topper is known, has 360-degree views, radiant heat flooring and just under 500 square feet of terrace space and will be ready for occupancy by year’s end. If you’ve had your eye on this particular prize, be consoled with the fact that Penthouse Two will be on the market soon (CurbedNY).
An apartment comprising the entire ninth floor at 1080 Fifth Avenue recently changed hands for $15 million. Apartments in the 21-story co-op offer stunning city skyline views and the apartment itself offers some of NYC’s finest Central Park views (NYO).
