Parking is a premium perk at some of the New York City's best addresses
MARCH 18, 2014
Comedian Jerry Seinfeld solved his parking problem (46 Porsches, so little space!) by spending $1.39 million to construct a three-story private underground parking garage near his apartment in the Beresford at 211 Central Park West in 2001 (which, for the record, offers residents a full-service garage) (source: NYO). For those with fewer vehicles, the options can still be impressive.
The double parking space that accompanies the $50 million penthouse unit at Delos at 66 East 11th Street comes with a $1 million price tag (no word as to whether it’s spoken for). The “wellness” condos have attracted attention due to celebrity board member and resident Deepak Chopra, but the most high-profile owner is probably Leo DiCaprio, who reportedly ended his well-documented apartment search here. The 8-story condominium conversion in a former dress factory offers residents healthy amenities like vitamin C-infused showers, purified air and water, supportive flooring, and circadian lighting design. The three-story penthouse offers 7,693 square feet of space and a three-story floating metal staircase leading to a solarium surrounded by more than 2,200 square feet of private rooftop terrace in addition to the aforementioned parking space.
Another newsworthy parking garage can be found Chelsea’s en-suite “sky garage” at 200 11th Avenue (pictured). There’s an elevator into which you can drive your car and have it parked outside your apartment in 60 seconds. The condominiums at 12 East 13th Street in Greenwich Village, 1 York Street in TriBeCa and 123 Baxter Street in Chinatown have added robo-parking to their amenity lists: An automated parking garage system allows residents to roll up and let technology take over.
Additional buildings with full-service parking garages include the Onyx at 261 West 28th Street, One Beacon Court at 151 East 58th Street, 15 Central Park West, Sterling Mason at 71 Laight Street in TriBeCa and a number of others. In Brooklyn, the 42-story luxury building known as Avalon Fort Greene at 343 Gold Street has devoted two stories to accommodate 256 parking spaces in a full-service garage for its rental residents. Valet parking makes life easier at buildings like Atelier at 635 West 42nd Street and Millennium Tower residences at 30 West Street in Battery Park City.
