Six Reasons Why You Want a Doorman in Your NYC Apartment Building
MARCH 2, 2012
In newer NYC apartment buildings, a security service, a full-time concierge or a remote or “virtual doorman” system may take the place of a real full-time doorman. But to many a white-gloved gentleman in the lobby still seems like the hallmark of NYC apartment living.
Pick a doorman building if you’d like someone on-site to:
1. Accept and sign for packages, dry-cleaning and food deliveries.
2. Get you a taxi and help carry heavy packages.
3. Keep you informed of any important developments in the building.
4. Keep an eye on your toddler or pooch while you get the mail.
5. Announce visitors–and ostensibly screen out the unwanted ones.
6. Keep an extra set of eyes on your apartment—especially if you travel frequently, live alone, or are elderly.
If you’re looking for a New York City apartment and want a doorman building, check the building page's “features & amenities” section on the CityRealty site and make sure there's a doorman and other amenities you want in a new apartment.
