Lincoln Center Target Free Thursdays: A Hawk and a Hacksaw
A Hawk and A Hacksaw–the duo of Jeremy Barnes (of Neutral Milk Hotel) and Heather Trost, known for performing traditional and original music steeped in Eastern European folk traditions–take their cues from the surreal folk magic of forgotten ancestors. Their new album, produced by John Dieterich of Deerhoof, offers new compositions as well as traditional folk tunes.

This concert will feature works from the eclectic 1920s–with a rare appearance by Byron Janis–when boundaries between the music hall, jazz club, theater and concert hall were being influenced by the swirl of new ideas and the new technologies of gramophone and radio in styles as disparate as atonality and jazz, baroque and Afro-Brazilian.
