The summer solstice–the longest day of the year–happens this weekend; it’s a perfect excuse to go a little bit crazy, (literally) climb the walls, and make a (long) day and night (or two) of it.

Swedish Midsummer Festival
At the annual Swedish Midsummer Festival in Battery Park City in lower Manhattan, adults and children can picnic in the grass, decorate the midsummer pole, make flower wreaths, play traditional games and dance to authentic fiddle music. Some of New York's finest Scandinavian restaurants and food purveyors will host food stands offering Swedish picnic-style delicacies.
