Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Rolls On, Moves In

MARCH 5, 2010

Cold stuff we actually like plans to stick around in Greenpoint.

The familiar yellow Van Leeuwen ice cream truck has rolled into the hearts of New Yorkers in recent years with its creamy micro-batches of artisanal ice cream. The Brothers Van Leeuwen and family have put down new roots with their first brick-and-mortar shop in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Regular customers will find familiar flavors like red currant, ginger and the classic chocolate and vanilla in the tiny café along with new additions. Sundaes, banana splits and other soda fountain favorites find a perfect home in the sunny spot, and innovative new creations will be more than welcome in the warm months to come. A pastry selection (from much-loved local eatery Marlow & Sons) adds substance, and coffee connoisseurs will be pleased to know that Intelligensia coffee will continue to be the bean of choice to compliment the sweet stuff.

If you can’t make it to the northern reaches of Brooklyn, don’t worry. The—recently expanded—family fleet will continue to make the rounds through city streets.
