What's Going on This Week
DECEMBER 31, 2008
Scare off your New Year's Day hangover for a good cause; And if you'd rather keep your sweater on, January is the best month to dust off your skates and enjoy the city's ice skating rinks and ponds.
The annual Coney Island Polar Bear Plunge isn't for the faint of heart (seriously) but it will definitely wake you up and sponsorship proceeds go to Camp Sunshine for kids.
Both Prospect Park and Central Park rinks offer skating, hockey, lessons and more, daily. For an old-fashioned date or just because you've always been meaning to, The Rink at Rockefeller Center is a classic pick. Or take a spin on your lunch break at The Pond at Bryant Park. Snacks and hot chocolate are offered pond-side. If you decide to skip the afternoon meetings, have dinner at Celsius restaurant afterward for rinkside views and a heated outdoor terrace.
