Since the March 11 earthquake and tsunami hit Japan with a one-two punch, thousands of concerned individuals have rallied to help raise funds for the daunting tasks of relief and rebuilding.
Concert to Benefit Japan Earthquake Relief at Miller Theater
An all-star lineup of innovative artists (musician and artist Yoko Ono and son Sean Lennon, Japanese-American indie duo Cibo Matto, Sonic Youth, vocalist Mike Patton) at the intersection of all musical genres and performance art will converge at Miller Theatre for a benefit concert to support recovery efforts in Japan. The event was organized by composer and multi-instrumentalist John Zorn, whose Aleph Trio will also perform. Check the Facebook page for more info.

S.O.S. Japan: 1OAK/Trump Soho Benefit
This night of clubbing, seeing and being seen—including goodie bags, open bar and a silent auction—benefits post-quake relief efforts.

Love for Japan with Wynton Marsalis at EN Japanese Brasserie
This evening of heartfelt generosity at the well-loved West Village izakaya at 435 Hudson Street promises music from jazz great Wynton Marsalis, a visit from Martha Stewart, a silent auction with items from top art galleries and shops and more, accompanied by sake, beer and hors d’oeuvres with 100% of the proceeds going to Japan Society’s Japan Earthquake Relief Fund and the Japanese Red Cross.

Japan Society Conference: Japan and the World after the Quake
In addition to having organized a huge earthquake relief fund, Japan Society is hosting a lunch and panel discussion on the social and economic impact of the quake in Japan and around the world. Panelists include Ambassador Shigeyuki Hiroki, Consul General of Japan in New York Robert Dujarric, Paul Scalise from Temple University’s Japan Campus and Takashi Imamura, Vice President & General Manager, Marubeni America Corporation.
