Carter’s Review

"Across the street from the famous, full-block Manhattan House apartment house, this 21-story, white-brick apartment building was erected in 1961 and converted to a cooperative in 1981. The 255-unit building benefits greatly from the fact that Manhattan House is setback considerably from 66th Street and also from Third Avenue, thus creating an unusual amount of precious "light and air" for this building that was erected 11 years after the completion of Manhattan House, the first major "white-brick," luxury apartment building in Manhattan. In contrast to the spacious lobby, extensive landscaping and many balconies of Manhattan House, this fairly austere building has no balconies and a pleasant but not large lobby and no landscaping. Its views have also benefitted by the fact that it was located across the avenue from low-rise buildings that included the celebrated Sign of The Dove restaurant that announced that it would close its prime location here in 1998. This section of Third Avenue has been developed with many major high-rise luxury apartment towers that have made it one of the most desirable areas in the city."
