From the smallest towns to the biggest cities in the world, kids doing their homework at the kitchen table is a common fixture -- it offers space away from the distractions of one's bedroom, and parents can be close enough to help or make sure the homework is actually being done. However, the kitchen table might have gotten a little crowded during lockdown, as parents and children both did their work from home.

The kids may have long since returned to school, but a recent study found that some degree of remote work shows no sign of going away. This can't help but affect real estate decisions, with home offices in high demand. Not only does this feature let adults do their work in peace, but it can also serve as a dedicated homework area when the work and school days are over.

Builders are starting to make a point of including "bonus rooms" that can be used as home offices in their new developments. However, some prewar apartments offer enough square footage to create home office space.
